Many of you advocate raising the minimum wage to $10/hour. How unthinking you are. First the gov't should not be involved in wages. Realistic safety yes, wages no.
The last time I checked the Bureau of Stats, only 1.7% of American workers work for minimum wage. Most of these are P. T. and youth workers.
We are complaining now that there are about 26 million people on welfare. Think. If the MW is raised to $10/hr, those people that have been on the job for a while and are making as much as $2.75 above MW almost none will get raises. Therefore all of those people will become the new poor and many will be eligible for welfare. All the people that are on fixed incomes there purchasing power goes down and many of these will be added to the list of poor.
Many of you also do not believe or understand that the cost of everything in the market goes up. Therefore 'cost of living' is up.
Politicians advocate raising the MW, Why? It gets them more votes.
If your are any kind of a thinker you know the above is correct. If you are not a thinker and you believe raising MW to $10/hr is good, then idiotic thinking believes $20/hr is better and WOW a $100/hr is fantastic. Raising MW is a job killer also.
Think a little.
your logic is flawed. In 1967 the minimum wage was $1.25 and was raised that year to $1.40. The consumer price index is approximately 8 times now as compared to then. $1.25x8=$10.00......this is where the logic of $10 comes from. However with the increase also comes more tax revenue,at all levels-city,state and federal....here is another thought. My medicare goes up this Jan.It increases 1.7%, so do we seniors deserve that? With your logic the answer is no because it drives up the cost of everything. My guess is most of us seniors need that small increase. What say you?
As a senior I am probably 10 years older than you, you are missing the entire point of the gov't raising MW. Raising MW, about 38%, from $7.25 to $10/hr, do you not think that this is not going to raise the cost of living? Do you think those people that are making less than 10/hour are going to get a raise above the $10 MW ? Don't hold your breath. Do you think those employers that have to raise the price of labor are not going to raise the price of their merchandise?.
You are a senion citizen, I am going to assume you are on a fixed income, Will your fixed income go up to adjust for this manipulated wage incease. I don't think so. You addressed the increases in city, county and state taxes, do you think your income is going up to compensate for these increases? I don't think so. Gov't should not be involved in company wages. Period.
You are getting a 1.7% increase in your SS, so am I. Your cost of living went up more than that. You spend a larger percentage of your income on food, clothing, shelter and gas than that. Those things are not included in the federal inflation rate.
From where you sit, gov't increase in MW is the worst thing that can happen to you.
These are the things that raising MW cause:
1. Raises the cost of living
2. Raises taxes
3. Reduces employment
4. Creates more poor people. (Raising MW can make you the next poor)
