Who is guilty for UAW membership decline?
Two major groups are guilty for the decline in UAW membership.
Just think a little bit.
1. Government with Minimum Wage.
2. UAW with increased wages.
Think. When wages per hour goes up it cost more to manufacture anything. As wages goes up, automation becomes the thing. Over the long run in the manufacturing of any thing automation becomes cheaper to manufacture products than human labor..
The best example I can give is the number of welder and painter on the auto assembly line. Robots do the work better and cheaper than humans.-
Incompetent leadership is one reason.
UAW President Bob King vowed to organize at least one foreign transplant by the end of 2011.
As the end of 2011 arrived, they retracted this goal.
Soon they announced their new goal: To select a target company to organize by the end of the year. Soon that rolled around and all they've done is picket a few Hyundai dealers.
There has been talk about a Nissan plant in Canton Mississippi, but that plant remains firmly UAW free. They can't even organize ONE SINGLE non-domestic plant.
It is time for the domestics to throw out the UAW also. De-certify the union and throw them out. What do they really do for you besides kill your job.
Travel to conventions and party on your dues? Intimidate anyone who doesn't toe the union line? Protect your unproductive goof-off co-workers?

I have never been a UAW member but most of my relative are or have been and every one believes it is OK to take from non-union members so they can live better. .
Not a one of them can understand that all benefits come from customers/non-union members. Companies actually pay nothing. No customer, no company. Companies have nothing until they get customers.

Think. Try poor United States trade agreements that let countries with enormous trade barriers export to us, while our friends in Alabama fall all over themselves GIVING money to the same countries and companies #$%$ us. Now THOSE are some REALLY DEEP THINKERS in that state.

thys, You are correct, We borrow money to give to countries that hate us. We elect idiots. Do you know that we have to borrow 53 cents of every dollar we give away. Our top leaders is the biggest idiot.

You sound like a jealous, envious UAW member just because Americans want THEIR cars, and not yours. They work for a reasonable amount, and have a lot of work. Yet you have the unparalleled audacity to question their intelligence.
Maybe, just MAYBE, THEY are the one that GET IT, and you're the ones who don't.
In any case, they have your jobs now. That should be a clue.
