Working together the UAW and GM have partnered with local charities to collect and profit from the massive amount of aluminum cans left in GM production facilities parking lots. The UAW conservatively estimates for every 10 UAW workers at least 100 beer cans per day can be found in the parking lots. So if there are 500 people on shift there should be 5,000 beer cans daily a big winfall for local charities. GM managment is allowing the colllection of beer cans on the property and is providing large dumpsters for the workers to use. Also GM will not prosecute workers who drink on the property for the remainder of 2013. The UAW is putting out flyers and discussing at meetings how the membership should drink more at work and has even offered free cartons of smokes for those UAW members who drink over 30 cans a day while working. A GM spokesman has said that quality will not be affected since most workers are drunk anyways so this progam benefits the local charities without costing GM any money.
