Buddy Dale and a cop that liked the 69 Chevelle....

Dale moved out to Seattle a few months after i did and also worked at Boeing. One day he jumped on a train headed for Portland and came back driving a new 69 Chevelle SS. A dark blue metallic beauty with a black vinyl top. Of course it had the 396, 375 horse variety, 4-speed with black vinyl interior and a bench seat. He was a tightwad and supposedly went to Oregon to buy it so he wouldn't have to pay sales tax. The invoice proved he paid 3200 bucks for it. The car was wickedly fast.
One Friday night, four of us drove over to Renton and stopped at a bar called Friar Tucks. It had a sunken dance floor, even though none of us danced, and also had a Beatles tribute band that played the "Happy Birthday" song BETTER than the Beatles. Wall to wall pretty girls. Other than George, who was cleaning up over at the pool table and won more than 50 bucks that nigh, the rest of us overdid it a little. Then Dale ordered another pitcher right before the doors closed. He wasn't going to leave the pitcher behind, so he stuck it under his coat and walked out the front door right past the bouncer. i was sitting in the back seat behind him and he handed me the pitcher and took off like a maniac heading for the freeway. The red lights came on almost immediately. The Cop smelled the beer, took one look at us and we were nailed. Dale was too drunk to respond, so i conversed with the Cop with the pitcher on my lap, and he eventually let us go. He told me that i had to drive the rest of the way, so i threw the beer on the pavement and switched places with Dale. The nice Cop mentioned how nice the car was, drove off and we went about a mile up the road before Dale DEMANDED to get back behind the wheel. Surprisingly he drove fine the rest of the way home just fine. Many more Cops had a Heart back then, but i'm sure a lot of 20 year old kids didn't see 21....
