What do unions do? Business unions they bleed businesses. Gov't unions they bleed the poor tax payer.
In my county average salary for private industry is $32 k, in gov't jobs the average salary is $40k. This tells you the tax payer is robbed..
The 2008 census reported the medium income as $50,233. The Pew Research Center suggests that the middle income range is 75 percent to 150 percent of the median income. This would make the middle class income range $37,675 to $75,350. This would suggest the average salary in your county falls $5,000 below the middle class range. Another indication the middle class is shrinking in the US. Maybe you'd be happier if more workers fell below the middle class range?
Please review the last 2 Ford contracts as well as the modifications to the 2003 contract in 2005, and the re-opening of the 2007 contract in 2009, all for the purposes of more give-backs.
Also, at least at Ford, we are still working with 2003 wages. All of these things were done before GM and Chrysler workers were REQUIRED to approve give-backs as a condition of the bailout and BK. Many of our concessions (at Ford) were given before the economic crash in 2008. I know people (anti-union ones) don't like to hear this stuff but I lived it.
