Many posters in here have no clue where their auto parts come from. They think GM cars are 100% made by American, in America with American parts. They fail to know that majority of components are made oversea. Some are from Germany, some are from Korea, Japan, China,..... you name. Some parts are made in America may contain foreign parts. Some of you may not know that Jatco is owned by Nissan and Mitsubishi, It is the largest AT/CVT transmission supplier in the world. It supplies Transmission to automakers around the world including GM, Chrysler, Ford, BMW, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Isuzu, Suzuki, BMW, Volkswagen, Hyundai, Jaguar, MG Rover Group and Land Rover. Most sensors, if not all, in GM, Ford and Chrysler are from Denso, which is partly owned by Toyota. So if Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi are piece of junk so as for GM, Ford and Chrysler because they bought parts from junk.
Each manufacturer will also have those parts made to their own engineering specifications. These will differ from one manufacturer to another.
A similar example of this is the 6-speed transaxle that GM and Ford designed together. Though the same design was used in both Ford and GM cars GM had problems with it and recalls. This is because some of the parts in the transaxle were not stress relieved. GM was looking to increase profit by cutting corners and thus made an unreliable transmission. Ford stuck with doing what was needed for the severe duty of a transaxle and have had no problems with it, though the design of the components is identical. Engineering standards makes a big difference.

Are you speaking of the 6T40 or 6T70 transmissions? Can you tell me which parts you are speaking of, or your source of this information?
They were also things that GM did that Ford was forced to do as a result of poor testing performance. For instance, on the 6T70, GM always planned to hard grind the transfer gears in the transmission, Ford did not. Hard grinding gears is common in the aerospace industry, not so much in automotive because it is an expensive process. Testing showed that the Ford transmissions had significantly higher gear noise than the GM version, and finally had a crash program to buy, install,and debug the hard grinding equipment for the gear flanks before introduction.
Another example is the TEHCM (transmission electro hydraulic control module). Basically this part is a micro computer that controls all functions of the transmission. GM and Ford took different routes on this too. Ford elected to have the TEHCM external to the transmission and mounted in the engine compartment. By doing this, they didn't have to mate the TEHCM to the transmission and could ship directly to the car assembly plant independently from the manufacturer (in the early days the single source was Bosch in Anderson, South Carolina, nice plant by the way). GM decided to house the TEHCM internal to the transmission. By so doing, they could tune the shift solenoids to the individual, specific TEHCM eliminating the variation between the two and improving shift feel.

This is so easy to believe. I was touring/visiting a GM plant years ago and I saw it first hand.
A couple of GM guys were busily tearing down a Lexus ES300.
Lexus was the target they were gunning for.....If you wanted a room's full attention back there, all you had to say was: "HERE'S HOW YOU GUYS CAN BEAT LEXUS..."
Anyway, one guy is observing stuff about this Lexus and calling it out, and another guy is standing there writing notes. Suddenly the first guy freaks out. I heard him yell from halfway across the plant floor.
He says, "HOLEE $#!+!, look at this CLIP they used in this trunk to hold these WIRES down! This must have cost them at least 39 CENTS a PIECE!"
He then continued freaking out over this insane Japanese extravagance for quite a while.
This is when it really hit home to me that even at Cadillac, they had to viciously cheap down every stinking molecule going into their cars.
Shave every part to the utmost, and make it just as cheap as it could possibly be.
Most sensors in GM vehicles come from Delphi or Bosch, which supplies Toyota as well. GM uses only one transmission from Jatco, and that is in the Spark. CVT's generally suck and cannot handle large amounts of torque, that's why they are good for low power output vehicles, but not suited for high powered American cars and trucks.
