During the collective bargain, Union insisted that the JOBS BANK program, in which they got sweet paid without doing any work for several months, will increase the productivity and efficiency in the factories when they returned back to work, but actually they bankrupted auto makers and hurt us manufacturing sector
After my retirement I have chances to read some books and realized that a lot of them are liberal/left-wing from ideology perspective. No wonder during their private conversation, they praised the labor relationship and factory system in the USSR
The thing we the people need to understand is a country/economy can not prosper with just jobs. What is required is wealth. What produces wealth: food, commodities and manufacturing. The entire economy runs off of these three.
If jobs was the answer all of the thousands of gov't jobs would mean things are good. Gov't jobs bleed the economy.
All of the jobs across the country can be trace to : food, commodities and manufacturing.
Starting in 1946, Singer Sewing the first big mfg'er left the country. This started the downward spiral of our economy. Today we have shipped out the bulk of our mfg'ing jobs because of : rules, regulations , laws and union. Most of todays economy is run off of Food and Commodities. To return to the super power of the past, manufacturing must return. JMO.
During the collective bargain, Union insisted that the JOBS BANK program}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
Wrong--the jobs bank was the proposal of Roger B Smith in 1987 and it pertained to Delco-Remy because he wanted to move the work to Mexico. And since pattern contracts are the norm in the auto industry Roger B also wanted it because Ford would have to follow suit and they were in bad shape in the 1980s. And yes it did turn out to be a nightmare for GM
I don’t care what kind of excuses people bring up, the truth is that the JOBS BANK program seriously damaged US auto makers and caused several million manufacturing jobs outsourcing abroad at exodus scale, simply because not only much higher labor expense at that time, but they also asked to get pay without doing any work
Union fabricated all kind of number and data in the last several decades, 2 famous examples for your reference, 1. changing color of car during the manufacturing process in the assembly line will increase the productivity and efficiency in the factory and 2. labor cost for a car just few cents in the dollar.
Although I felt that was counter intuitively, in order to avoid pre-judgment, prevent misunderstand, and to get the truth, I measured at the factory. The empirical data indicated that placing different color car in the assembly line during the manufacturing process significantly slow down the production and decrease the efficiency and increase the expense essentially for auto makers
