    • Robertson Stephens Reiterates Buy Rating, Raises
      Estimates on SNPS

      SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS
      WIRE)--Oct. 27, 1999--Robertson Stephens Managing Director
      and Senior
Electronics Analyst Daniel T. Niles and
Semiconductor Analyst Arnab K. Chanda today reiterated their
      Buy rating and
      raised estimates on Synopsys
(Nasdaq:SNPS - news), after the company reported strong fourth
quarter fiscal 1999 earnings. The company, headquartered
      in
Mountain View, Calif., develops, markets and supports
high-level design automation tools for designers of
      integrated circuits and electronic systems.

      ``We are
reiterating our Buy rating on Synopsys, after the company
reported fourth quarter fiscal 1999 revenues of $228.3
      million and
      earnings-before-goodwill of $0.75 per
share, versus our estimates of $220 million and $0.71
per share, respectively,'' said Niles and Chanda.

``Synopsys has aligned the company into three strategic
directions: Physical Synthesis, Systems Verification, and IP
Reuse and has also restructured the
      sales
operations,'' said Niles and Chanda. ``The company also
announced a new licensing structure during the quarter,
allowing for 1,3 and 5 year term value
      licenses.''

``We are therefore raising our fiscal 2000 revenue
estimates from $954 million to $968.9 million and our
      earnings-before-goodwill estimates from $3.06 to
      $3.12,'' said Niles
and Chanda. ``We believe the company is moving in the
right direction by expanding its business from its
      traditional strength in synthesis. We
      also believe that
Synopsys is well positioned given its product leadership
and the fundamentals of the EDA business which should
      accelerate given the recovery
      in the semiconductor
      business.''

    • I am going to sell some covered calls then... Maybe around $65, it should be a good price.

    • If you look at Yahoo! research for SNPS for last
      quarter (july,
99), the earnings are listed as 67
      cents, which is what SNPS
      reported Before Good Will
for that quarter on a diluted basis.
      Now if we do
the same thing for this quarter's earnings,
      then
the earnings are 75 cents, and this is 4 cents above
      the
      consensus estimate of 71 cents.

      We should sky rocket
      tomorrow !

    • came in at .72 diluted, anyone have an after hour quote?

    • Earnings will be out after the bell

    • Are the figs out before or after the bell.

Does anyone know a site that gives this info?

      Thanks

    • Hi,
Look at the history of SNPS, it never
missed any earning forecast, this is a well-run, and
well-managed company. SNPS is absolutely a monopoly in the
front-end, and its main strategy is focusing on the
back-end. SNPS will be the one stop EDA tool provider, and
which is essecial for the Chip Designers, since make
all tools (from different vendors) working together
is really a painful task. SNPS is making it easier
and easier. ALL MAJOR chips will be designed using
SNPS tools! And in 5 years, you will see that SNPS is
absolutely the No.1 player in the EDA industry, you might
not be able to find CDN by then.

    • Most of the time, SNPS has showned a very low
price stock before they announce their earnings,
because they always have a very low expectations for
their earnings... Might be a good time to buy before
the end of the day on Tuesday. I might consider
buying some Nov calls just before the close if the price
      is real low.

    • But you can always check out the following site
to know if there are more buys than sells on a
      specific
      stock.

As for me, I bought some SNPS this morning at $55. I
believe that the big funds are coming in this stock since
there was not much movements so far for this stock on
the upside in the last few months, very low PE and
good financials makes it a good target for the
      funds.

      We'll see on October 26!
