United Continental Holdings, Inc. Message Board

UAL and AMR totally fialed us

I really am surprised with the crap I'm seeing on this board. America is humiliated by this. Make no mistake.

Four planes hijacked from three airports on the same day.... within the same two hour timeframe.

To say the least, this makes a mockery of the strategic missile defense initiatives.

No other third world country can claim the dubious honor.

COME ON PEOPLE. WE'VE ALLOWED OURSELVES TO BE HUMILIATED, TO BE INJURED. LET'S JUST ADMIT IT AND MOVE ON. IF THE INDUSTRY CANNOT REGULATE ITSELF, SOMEONE ELSE WILL HAVE TO REGULATE IT FOR THEM.

    • Consider these items for a moment please:
      1. Who establishes the specifications for airline security? Door/lock specifications? FAA
      2. Who is responsible for maintenance and surveillance of adherance to those specifications? FAA
      3. Does possession of a "box cutter" type knife or or a knife with a blade 3"(maybe even 4") in length while passing through the scanner and boarding an airliner constitute a security violation? Does now - didn't Sept. 11
4.What are your specific charges against UAL/AMR?
If you suggest a big-time national intelligence failure, I would be closer to agreeing with you.

      • in your statement you mention that intelligence failed us you are WRONG!!! consider the facts that you dont here about. like
        1. only one other attack on US soil in 30+ yrs of terriorizom
        2. a total of 12 major players in the terrorist world have been captured thanks to or intell agencys
        3. so if you can do better punk join the cia and do something constructive

      • Its called being fucking responsible for some of the BS that happened. They know they are partially responsible and are trying to sidestep the situation and blame it on the FAA, economy, and regulation. Over 5,000 people have to die and these fuckers still try and push their BS.

We need federal help and an increase in wages to meet security needs! Our pilots don't feel safe to fly! Yea dudes, I wouldn't feel safe either if some pussy gave the controls to an ARAB without a struggle.

Where the fuck is the union losers now. A few years ago the company was laughing with glee at the earnings and little regulation that helped prop earnings and pay for the pilot wage increases.

      • Another excusenick/apologist for the airline industry. A few questions:

        1. If the airlines represents itself as able to self-regulate, then why should the FAA be held responsible?

        2. Why do you apologize for the inadequecy of the industry? They failed us. Four planes, three airports, two hours, five thousand people - the result of an industry that insured us that it could do without intrusive regulation.

        3. Inadequate security was obvious to us all. UAL and AMR continued a vast self-deception for well over a decade.
