I worked on a merger with Wilhelmina back in 2001 and 2002. Got to know Dieter, Bobby Kruessler (now with another firm) and Sean Patterson. All three of them were high quality people. Very good at their jobs; very capable; very professional. Dieter and I had a lot of common friends in Germany--and I thought Dieter ran the business well. He let Bobby and Sean free to make the company work well. Although I have no clue what Sean and Bobby thought of each other, I know that their professional relationship was very good. It was a case where 1 + 1 = 3.
Our merger did not work because of the tough financing market after the 9/11 attack. A lot of business ratcheted down their advertising dollars and a lot of Wilhelmina models went to Europe to work for a while. We were unable to show our funding sources that this income would come home as the economy recovered after 9/11, and we simply could not get the financing.
I'd like to find Dieter and have a cup of coffee with him. He was wise and experienced and he told great stories (life stories where you learn things).
I think this company would do a lot better with Sean taking more of a lead role.
There are a lot of rich guys who want to be involved in modeling agencies so they can "sleep with supermodels." They have their eye on the wrong objective. We encountered a few of these guys--during our time with Wilhelmina.
I don't know the Dallas guys, but they could show me a lot by promoting Sean.
