Have you been in Ameristar Casino??

Times have changed since Mr N is gone.

Customer Service has gone to hell in a basket. The casino floors have tired old, old slots.

I wonder why the health inspectors don't close down the buffets.

How a great company has gone south...imo

    • Go to the North Kansas City Property. One of the nicest casinos ive ever been in. Oyster bar, Micro Brewery, Movie Theatre and a very nice casino.

    • Maybe you had a bad experience, but here in Kansas City it's still the same.

    • Stay at the Council Bluff property during the CWS. Not Vegas, but much nicer than most midwest boats. Just bought into this today.

    • I can answer your question on south county area (river city) since I live there. It is a very safe area...though it is not the nicest part of south county, it is much safer than downtown and certainly safer than the Illinois casino.

Regarding the other concerns of high rollers, sure the $1000 crap tables are in Vegas, not St. Louis but I've been to St. Louis casinos several times since the new law and spoke with quite a few people who now go there instead of Illinois. I did see a lot of black chip betting at the tables.

    • As we move into '09, which companies do you honestly think will survive the economic downturn? Which ones will have the income to cover operating expenses and debt service? Forget expansion. Just maintain operations.

I guess it will be '10 before there is a general up turn in economy and a rebound in stocks, in all sectors.

    • <<How is the south St Louis County area where River City is going up?>>

Although the $500.00 is gone in Missouri, the Gaming tax has gone up another 1%. The big time spenders at ain't going to South St Louis when the real deal(VEGAS) is available.

PNK only hope is Lake Charles, LA which Houston is Market feeder.

If Galveston, Tx ever get Casinos, PNK will out of luck...imo

    • I don't know the St Louis area but I see your posts about how unsafe the area is. How is the south St Louis County area where River City is going up? Could that turn out to be the money spot for PNK in the future?

    • I've been to both at night, went in large groups though but never felt in danger. Go to a lot of baseball and hockey games at night as well and feel completely safe.

The Queen in ESTL is a little worse but plenty of security. The one thing they offer gamblers is a non-smoking environment. For me that's a real nice feature, but the pathetic 2x odds on craps usually keeps me away.

All in all, I do agree, Ameristar and Harrah's by the airport are in much safer environments. I don't play slots much, so can't comment. Yeah, Ameristar certainly is way ahead of Harrah's as far as customers ever since they built that new night club.

    • I think St Charles is sitting pretty. HARRAHS has tighten the slots that the little blued haired like to play, so it is a matter of time for them to come to St Charles more.

I would not worry about pnk or EStL casinos as only a fool would go downtown or to EStL at night.

    • Likewise in St. Louis Market. They are much more crowded than Harrahs (it's only close competition but Lumeire and a couple others are 20 minutes away in the downtown area - Ameristar has the most business of them all). The place has done some major upgrades before the finance bubble burst. Not sure how much is paid off yet. They added a new nightclub that draws a huge crowd with hour long waits and added a real nice bar in the center of the casino.
One more positive for them is the elimination of the loss limit in Missouri. It used to limit a gambler so they could only buy-in for $500 every 2 hours. No high roller is going to want to go any Missouri casino with that restriction. Now they can attract those people.

This is a great trading stock for a point or so. I've been in and out several times in the past few weeks. Just back in today, still not convinced holding stocks is the best thing to do in this market.

Good luck on your trades (and gaming trips)
