FIO approach is flawed. Violin array is the real deal!
Server side caching is nothing special. No proprietary technology other than "software". Server makers can bypass FIO and just install in directly to the board and bypass PCIe if needed. Intel can put more cache closer to the CPU. There are literally a dozen companies making PCIe NAND.
No one sees the problem with FIO's reliance on FB and AAPL? If they're the leader in this space, why is there revenue so small relative to the market?
Open Computing = death to profits. Tech giants made their money selling open platform? I don't think so!
You want to invest in cloud storage, wait until VIOLIN MEMORY comes public in a few months. They have proprietary IP, fastest arrays, and the most intelligent solution to big data. Server side flash is a toy compared to what Violin arrays do!
"No proprietary technology other than "software"."
Did you really just say hardware is where all the value come from and software is commodity?
"Open Computing = death to profits. Tech giants made their money selling open platform? I don't think so!"
Again this is just a bizarre statement. You are saying proprietary systems like the ones built by IBM added more value to the computer industry than platforms that evolved from open platforms like the Microsoft and Intel combo?
"You want to invest in cloud storage, wait until VIOLIN MEMORY comes public in a few months. They have proprietary IP, fastest arrays, and the most intelligent solution to big data. Server side flash is a toy compared to what Violin arrays do!"
So while everyone is talking about software defined you think the old way of extracting value from a proprietary box is the right way to go. I couldn't disagree more.
What I am saying is FIO's ION data accelerator, and ioDrives into a shared appliance from any OEMs ( HP, DELL, CSCO ) or the recent Open Compute Project (OCP) ODM hardware design is better marketing channel VS. Violin'S own salesforce.
LOL Let me guess, you are reading that entire curd pile in the bush league deal prospectus red herring.
Before you fall in love with the latest DOA ipo company, you might want to actually study what FIO is doing and why the important tech companies are partnering/scooching up with Dave and his team.
By the way, FIO has low book from AAPL and Faceplant this quarter and yet will install more than $80m of equipment. Hello? Have you any idea what is happening with FIO's io Scale and more than 15 customers per quarter ordering that solution during each of the last two quarters?
From your comments, it seems you may also be unaware of FB's new graphics applic that will use FIO, and maybe you aren't current regarding China Mobile coming on board, the new chinese payments processor, Pandora, Salesforce and so on...
Quick now -- tell us all about Violin;s hyperscale clients and after you get done with that long list, share with us how much you know about Violin's enterprise backlog and client list.
The only alliance that I know Violin memory had was HP, and was terminated already. I guess the only channel sale for Violin is direct sales. Violin has total 450 employees, so, couldn't have more than 100 sales force against FIO 200 and counting.
Violin memory is a proprietary system, and by nature difficult to grow the business Vs. FIO, yet is supposed to be capitalized at $B2.
