Sprint PCS tumbles on rating
downgrade

CHICAGO, April 14 (Reuters) - Shares of wireless network
Sprint PCS Group fell sharply on Wednesday after Morgan
Stanley Dean Witter cut its rating of the stock to
neutral from strong buy, analysts said.

``It's
down on the Morgan Stanley downgrade,'' said Soundview
Technology Group analyst Timothy O'Neil. ``But Sprint is
positioning themselves in the best possible light to become a
major integrated telecommunications
player.''

Further details on the downgrade were not immediately
available from Morgan Stanley.

Shares of Sprint PCS
were 6-1/8 lower at 49-3/8 in trade on the New York
Stock Exchange.

O'Neil said Wednesday's drop in
the stock price presented a good buying opportunity
partly because of the opportunities Sprint PCS will have
to take business away from wired long distance and
local telephone companies through lower-end
pricing.

``Dime-a-minute price plans will take a lot of the local and long
distance traffic away from the wired carriers and put them
on Sprint's PCS network,'' O'Neil
said.

O'Neil also noted Sprint Corp.'s purchase of wireless
cable television company People's Choice TV Corp. (OTC
BB:PCTV - news) for $103 million on Tuesday.

The
acquisition will allow the telecommunications company to
reach customers' homes or businesses directly without
going through the Baby Bell's local phones, the analyst
said.

``You can take that spectrum which supported 22
television stations and instead of offering television,
offer broadband wireless local loop,'' O'Neil
said.
