When patients talk about the good points of the NXStage System One they use the term "more frequent treatments" and never say how much more? When they talk about travel they say "It's only 2 feet tall" They never say how heavy it is? First the treatments: I dialysis now at a clinic for 3.5 hours Monday Wednesday and Friday. When I had the Nxstage machine I dialysis 3 hours Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. My wife and I got so burnt out that we had to give it up. Travel: It weighs 70+ lbs and you have to take or ship 6 / 5 liter bags of fluid for each treatment. That's 36 bags for one week. The water system is not portable and must be used at home only. Nxstage tells how many new patients they get each year but I haven't seen them say how many gave the machine up and the old machine was given to the new patient. If they could cut back the dialysis days to 3 or 4, then I would be the first to sign back up for one and buy some stock.
So are you a NXTM shareholder? Are you short the stock? I appreciate your firsthand experience. The fact is that the stock is on a relentless march higher and nearing a big breakout. These kind of moves generally precede good news. Could it be that a lot of patients prefer home dialysis despite the drawbacks?
