Sure did wonders for my wife's Colo-rectal surgery. The old method has a friend of ours in pain a couple of years after the event. My wife was up in a couple of days and she went back to work after 10 days because she felt so good and was crawling the walls. She was an executive with a renown Symphony orchestra, so her time was quite valuable.
They later went in to remove her ovaries because of a benign tumor and again the results were very impressive. Little pain and she was back to work in a short period of time.
There is a part of the cost/benefit analysis that is not measured - how quickly the patient is returned to a productive life by the various methods.
