Senate agrees to repeal medical device tax. Non binding but got my attention!

Anyone following this issue closely and have a take on where it goes? Could set off a firestorm of short covering at some point if they can repeal it.

    • What was the estimated income for the gov from taxes being created with the 2.3% medical device tax?

What percentage did gov expect it to grow over time?
      - the rate of inflation?
      - the growth of the med device industry? if so, what is that growth rate?

      thanks

Vote 79 to 20 with many Democratic crossovers. Obama will veto any legislation that messes with his "signature" legislation and strongarm ~15-25 Dems to back his veto. If he can muster 25 his veto holds, if only 15 its repealed. It is still a toss-up. The real issue here is will he go to the mat for this? The first hole in the dike is the critical one. If this repeal is successful, what next? Insurance rates are now estimated to go up 189% and hit the young, healthy middleclass the hardest. It is now estimated that 20 million workers that were insured with their companys when Obamacare was passed will lose that coverage by the time Obamacare is implemented. 20 million unhappy workers probably influence their spouses and family members enough to push 10-20 million voters decisions come 2014. Will those Senators coming up for election the year after the full insurance impacts are felt throw themselves on the sword for a lame duck president? I would have said no before the Supreme Court decision on Obamacare, now I just don't know.

      • Poverty, just because you didn't vote for the President doesn't mean anything to me. 8 years of Bush/ Cheney almost took this country to a depression lest you have amnesia. I guess you haven't looked at the stock market and even your 401k from where Obama took over. Get off your ignorant stool and leave the politics to the politicians. Whatever happens certainly you can't do anything but print your hatred for Obama and i'm not hearing it. The government wasn't just created 4 years ago but some of you wingnuts want to think it was.

        Sentiment: Strong Buy
