    An honest question for ntlslp

I have read only a few of your posts so far so forgive me if I asked something you have made clear in a recent post. You have made several comments about the over application of robotic surgery to benign hysterctomy. For the record, I don't necessarily disagree with you. But just so I am clear, what is it that you see as the future for benign hysterectomy? Are you a proponent of open surgery for these procedures or of standard lap? The reason I ask is that there are studies for prostatectomy that would suggest that they should all still be done as open procedures. I'm sure there are similar papers for benign hysterectomy. Just wanting to be clear on where you are coming from. Thanks you for your posts

    • I never got a reply from you ntlslp. I see you posting, how about a reply

    • With open surgery, the Surgeon has the advantage of being able to see the whole field and get his hands in and feel around. If his hand slips, twitches or trembles when he's cutting, too bad. But blood quickly fills the site and it's often hard to see anyway.
After they sew you back up, you have a big, ugly scar that is slow to heal and inside, you often get things growing back together wrong, adhesions and a lot of scar tissue.
I have big surgical scars from crotch to sternum ( cancer) and up my lower back( lumbar decompression).... Plus a few hernias.
The scar tissue , adhesions and incidental damage done, cause significant discomfort every day of my life. Using the ISRG instruments instead of open surgery would have made my life much less painful!!
