exparel game changer in post operative pain management ent surgeon
drug efficacy of exparel
as an ent surgeon i have been using exparel in adult tonsillectomies and sleep apnea surgery for snoring the past 3 mos
these procedures require excision of delicate throat tissues
normally patients after these procedures require very significant amounts of narcotic medications for at least a week post op
the patients receiving exparel have required very little pain medication.mostly non narcotic
anyone who has undergone these operations as an adult can testify to the level of pain and discomfort they endure post operatively my impression is that exparel is going to be real game changer in post operative pain management .
Never used it but can definitely see the potential. There is a push to avoid narcotics in kids post t&a so our protocol is to use just straight tylenol and ibuprofen after day 1. I inject marcaine 0.5% with epi into the tonsil bed at the end of the case in adults/kids but that only works for first day or so.
Post UPPP/tonsillectomy adults would also benefit greatly.
