Gas is $9 in Europe. We'll be there someday. People will give up movies, eating out, clothes etc before they stop driving their cars. Money simply flows into different sectors. The economy isn't harmed one bit. It's all a big conspiracy that high oil prices kill economies. Oil will cannibalize other parts of the economy. People can do without their Big Macs and large fries. Health care sector will benefit from people eating cleaner due in large part to expensive gas.
People don't drive when they lose jobs and unemployment runs out.
So yes, people cutting back in other areas also impacts fuel demand.
Meanwhile, on channel 6, drillers are frantically trying to drill more wells in TX, Oklahoma, North Dakota, and just about anywhere they can get it, even if it only sucks out a barrel a day. Not even going to mention the shale oil (we saw what all that nat gas from shale did for nat gas prices).
There is no cure for high prices like high prices.
