The republicans have for years said greater production will yield lower prices. Well, now you know, they were wrong. US crude oil and nat gas production are at 40 year highs and the price of gasoline, home heating oil, and gas are at near record highs. What makes this a failed ideology is that petroleum and its related products are a global commodity. The US must have conservation measures to reduce energy demand (higher cafe standards, more efficient mechanical devices, etc), move toward renewables (electric cars for running around town, solar panels on homes to provide electric for lights, etc), and enhance current resources (nat gas cars, fuel cell heat pumps, etc). Only a plan which employs all of these is creditable.
Refinery capacity!!!! Yes it may be true oil and gas production is at all time highs, but when the EPA is mandating refineries put exotic stuff in fuel that has not even been invinted yet, it is hard for them to stay in business, not to mention there has not been a refinery built since Bill Clinton was president. Gasoline demand keeps going up but supply is not keeping pace.
