AERG Reality #32 What The U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center Had To Say About AERG’s LIPC Transportable Demonstrator !!!

~ The U.S. Navy tapped Applied Energetics to deliver the product * * * based on their expertise in advanced laser technology research and development, particularly in the area of ultra-short pulse lasers * * *.

~ Applied Energetics will be providing operational and testing support to NSWC at Government test facilities under existing contracts.

~ “We were pleased to work with Applied Energetics on this project because of the * * * impressive performance that their system offered * * *, and their ability to turn the project around quickly to meet our program needs,” said Dr. Gerald Manke, Senior Scientist with the Advanced Technologies Branch of the Spectrum Warfare Systems Directorate of NSWC.

~ The Demonstrator includes a high performance ultra-short pulse solid state laser transmitter and a stabilized optical system for launching and monitoring the laser beam transmission.

~ Dr. Manke also noted that ultra-short pulse lasers are a promising new area for future military applications. “Most of our work with ultra-short pulse lasers has been constrained to operation in laboratory environments. The Transportable Demonstrator will allow us to investigate how these lasers behave in the weather, and at the long ranges needed for most military applications.

~ Capt. David Kiel of the Naval Sea Systems Command that sponsored the project noted that the system delivered by Applied Energetics is one of a kind. “The Navy and Applied Energetics have developed in this system an advanced field testing capability which is unique in the U.S.,” Capt. Kiel said.

~ This transportable device will facilitate a significant acceleration in advancing new military applications for ultra-short pulse lasers.”

~ Dana Marshall, Chairman, CEO and President of Applied Energetics, highlighted the collaborative effort that went into delivery of the system. “Applied Energetics has had a strong relationship with the Navy over several years, and delivery of this system is an important milestone in our development efforts,” Marshall said.

~ “The Transportable Demonstrator ONE TEAM FOR THE DEFENSE OF THE NATION 2
program was the result of an intensive six-month effort by our engineers and technicians, and required an exceptional team effort with the customer. We are now looking forward to working with our customers to build our combined understanding of how terawatt-class laser pulses will behave in the real world over long ranges.”
