"does that tell you something about the corrupt stock market?"
Maybe, njguy - - but I think it tells me much more about your preconceived notions about the stock market that are so strong you cannot see daylight.
Do you understand that WLP's 4th quarter earnings were right on guidance (a penny ahead, in fact)? Do you understand that means the market already knew what to expect? Do you understand that means the market price before WLP's announcement already factored in the expectation of the profit drop that gives you such agita?
Do you understand that a stock price is dependent on the expectation of future earnings? Do you understand that WLP reported better than expected Obamacare enrollment in 4Q13 which explains much of the lift in the stock going into 2014?
If you understand these things, why are you so confused to think that past losses must always drag down future earnings? Your explanation is "a corrupt stock market". A rational explanation is that WLP has fixed problems that harmed its profitability during past periods and, in addition, had a very successful 4th quarter Obamacare enrollment for coverage effective January 1.
Or do you not even pay attention to things like that?
btw, the key question for WLP is whether the larger-than-expected Obamacare population they have enrolled for 2014 will actually turn out to be profitable. No company knows that yet, not WLP, not anyone. Time will tell. But that is the key question.
Ditto my thoughts. When I first read that headline, I thought there was some typo error. Agree with you though, too much manipulation in the stock market. 80% of the retail investors in the stock market lose their money to 20% manipulators!!!
