    IS MARKET MANIPULATION FRAUD?

Evidence points to blatant price manipulation in shares of RIM (Research in motion). The huge runup of 100% in an established firm points towards Circular Trading and Price Fixing. The hedge funds that bought the share at around 70-90$ range are pushing up the price in order to dump it. The next phase will be to short sell at ~ 150$ and then manipulate the price back again to 80-90$. The retail trader is not capable of running up a 10 Billion $ market cap stock to 23 Billion. Only huge money hedge funds and traders can accomplish this by colluding with one another on a massive scale. Shame on the regulators for sitting like lame ducks. This stock has been the favorite of manipulators for the last couple of years. Check the movement from dec 2004 to today. The share fluctuates by more than 40% over just a few days. This is outrageous. Who gains from all this volatility(Market Manipulators). Who loses (the small investor). Who cares? Nobody is bothered to scrutinize this closely.
Please watch this situation. In 2 months this stock is going to be crushed again to around 80-90$. Either you start your investigation now, or 2 month from now.
UBS yesterday put a BUY rating and 160$ price estimate on RIMM. But UBS and its allies are actually selling their shares at these prices. The fact that they are unloading their shares while putting out a BUY recommendation(for gullible retail investors) should be investigated by SEC.

    Manipulations in stock market.
This is how the cartel operates
Bull run - a team props up the share price to unbelievably high levels while another group is softly selling off shares.
Bear Attack - a team crushes down the share price to artificially low levels while another group is gently buying up shares.
Can manipulation be done without collusion of several market players? Can anti racketeering, gangster, antitrust, cartelization laws be used to track, prosecute and prevent such manipulations?

How to detect who is involved and how?
Follow the money and electronic trail.
Money the group that quietly buys low & then sells high compensates the team that caused the runup and created volatility in the share. When a share is selling for 150$, there is suddenly a buy order for 151$ that pushes up the price[Vice versa a sudden sell for 148$ that suppresses the price]- this is the manipulator at work. All it takes is to follow the money and electronic trail from here.
Electronic there is frequent dialogue between both teams on strategy, new developments, market timing(when to drop or rise the price) etc. Mind you hedge funds maintain tight security to thwart wiretaps.
It is time to unmask the MAFIOSI of the electronic age HEDGE FUNDS.

      Shrinking margins will crush RIMM:

No question the new Pearl is selling like gangbusters, but despite a monumental revenue number, and revenue guidance, RIMM still missed its EPS number by a penny. And guidance forward is a penny below the high-end, and the 92 cents to 99 cents range is well below the $1 consensus per share the Street was looking for.

What this all suggests is RIMM's operating margins are under surprising pressure. And that's what happens when you start to shift your sales focus from corporate clients (where margins have a little more flexibility) to consumers who are a lot more finicky when it comes to slapping down some plastic for a new cell phone.

This has prompted companies such as Visto and Seven to take on RIM. Neither company is a household name because they do not market their software directly. Instead, mobile operators sell their services under their own brands. In the UK, for example, Vodafone uses Visto, and Orange uses Seven. This approach allows operators to segment their markets according to the functions users want and, of course, according to price.

In the US, some mobile operators offer e-mail for free, only charging for the data transmitted. Alternatively, an operator could offer a fully-functional e-mail system on a wireless PDA for business users and a simpler, single e-mail account for personal users buying a data-capable feature phone. This, according to Visto co-founder Daniel Mendez, is where the greater opportunity lies.

RIM might have cornered the market among early adopters of mobile e-mail, and made BlackBerry a household name in the process. The real target, however is the billions more mobile phones that do not yet have e-mail at all.

Competition for that prize will be very tough indeed.

Question: How do you boost top line revenues and subscriptions while giving phones away. Easy: You book the sale of the phone at full value with free or cheap subscription and then account for the rebates offered as an advertising expense. You can then book the advertising cost in the next quarter as you wait for retailers to submit or hold back their rebate claims or if you have to wear them in the current quarter the market gets a jump in "Selling & Marketing Costs" which affects the bottom line (but not the Gross Profit Percentage) in the current quarter but the analysts explain this away as "roll-out costs" not really for current sales but to pump (growing) sales over the next year blah, blah, blah. Investors get so little detail on what's behind the earnings it is easy to hide the real profitablity of transactions so that it appears that everytime you give a phone away you make money.
