BlackBerry Z10 Jumps Off to a Record-Setting Start in Canada and U.K.
By John Paczkowski
BlackBerry sa BB.T +0.69%id on Wednesday that the launch of the Canadian and UK launches of the Z10 have been the best of any of its handsets debuts in those regions ever.
“In Canada, yesterday was the best day ever for the first day of a launch of a new BlackBerry smartphone. In fact, it was more than 50% better than any other launch day in our history in Canada,” BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins said in a statement. “In the UK, we have seen close to three times our best performance ever for the first week of sales for a BlackBerry smartphone.”
this lends further credence to preliminary reports of strong demand for the Z10 in the UK. As we noted earlier this week, retail channel checks conducted following the device’s launch last week returned encouraging results with some vendors reporting sell-outs, lines and other signs of strong demand.
"Canaccord Genuity’s Mike Walkley is less confident in the phone’s initial popularity. “Limited initial supply was cited as the reason for early post-launch stock-outs at some carrier stores versus overwhelming demand,” he stated in a research note. “In fact, our surveys indicated most stores received less than 15 units and sold a majority of these units over a two- to three-day period, leading to initial stock-outs at a few stores and low inventory levels at others.” Much of the demand the phone did experience came from “loyal” BlackBerry users that had waited to upgrade their BB7 devices. Walkley holds a Sell rating on the stock."
So much hype over a non-event. I remember the headlines for the PlayBook: "UK shocker: BlackBerry PlayBook is outselling the new iPad". We know what came out of that, a pretty much discontinued product!
Stock price should be well over 20. Easy to see $2 in eps at the very least.
15 pe x 2 is $30 But this should get a growth pe since the growth is back. So 20 x 2 is 40 and that's where this is headed short term
