Apparently Blackberry doesn't want to spoil the US launch of the Z10 by publicly disclosing the anemic sales in the UK and Canada.
Seems to me like their following the stated plan...
From RIMs Form 40-F, March 3, 2012:
In the past, the Company has followed the practice of providing specific quantitative forward-looking guidance to its shareholders with respect to certain financial metrics for the subsequent fiscal quarter in its quarterly earnings press releases. On March 29, 2012, the Company announced that it will no longer provide specific quantitative guidance. However, the Company is committed to providing a high level of disclosure and transparency and will continue to provide commentary that highlights the trends and uncertainties that RIM anticipates. Such statements relating to, among other metrics, RIM’s revenue, gross margin and earnings
expectations, are forward-looking statements that are intended to enable RIM’s shareholders to view the anticipated financial performance and prospects of the Company from management’s perspective at the time such statements are made, and they are subject to the risks that are inherent in all forward-looking statements, as described above. They are made by RIM in light of its experience, its perception of historical and anticipated business trends, current conditions in the business and anticipated future developments, including competition and new product initiatives and timing, as well as RIM’s current assessments of the various risk factors identified above. As noted above and in the press releases containing such guidance, these forward-looking statements are subject to the inherent risk of difficulties in forecasting RIM’s financial results for future periods, particularly over longer periods, given the rapid technological changes, evolving industry standards, intense competition and short product life cycles that characterize the wireless communications industry.
sales in the UK can hardly be anemic.
I checked into Carphpone WarehouseUK and they feature the Z10 prominently, alongside the iPhone and at competitive rates.
They show Z10 ahead of Samsung, HTC or Nokia.
Makes one think you don't know what you are babbling about.
This is a stupid pin-the-donkey game by the shorts. They are the one who suggests it and the one who say it is not posted. Ridiculous.
Are you running the company or the CEO?
It is a side show. Just like Einhorn with Apple.
My guess is that Blackberry will delay releasing the numbers for as long as possible. They could say they want to wait until they have a full quarter of world wide sales - so no numbers until late June.
if a company on life support releases a make-a-break product, they should at least give some data if sales have ostensibly "exceeded expectations" (heins' words).
the big boys don't like uncertainty. that's why the stock's getting rightfully hammered.
