No lines in India but sold out - Read

He said the high-end Z10 had surpassed BlackBerry's expectations in emerging markets like India, where cheaper entry-level devices are typically popular.

"I was surprised when we launched in India how well the Z10, which is a high-end device, sold," said Heins. "We shipped into the channel product that we thought would have been good for at least five days and I got an emergency call from our manager in India, saying that they were sold out in two days,"

"Now we are scrambling to re-load that channel."

I read somewhere that apple actually pays people to stand in line to create hype.

      Sentiment: Strong Buy

    • Apple has conditioned a lot of people to believe that lineups are essential to success. Look at Samsung. When they release a new Galaxy phone we tend not to hear about any significant lineups. In fact Samsung goes out of its way to make fun of Apple people for standing in lines. Have you ever seen someone write about the imminent failure of the Galaxy S3 because most stores had no lineups

      • Well, I think it is different markets. The Z10 was sold out for weeks in Toronto, yet there were no line-ups on store openeings, just line-ups to buy the phone in the stores in peak hours after work. I truly think that despite whatever advertising BB10 is a slow burn/organic/word of mouth kind of device. People have found out I got a Z10, and one by one I get asked questions about it via email etc. I do tend to be an early adopter, but I can't get over how fast BB has responded to things like the battery life and the previously bad low light camera shots. Amazing what software updates can do. It just goes to show you it isn't just about the hardware (looking at you android race for specs). That said, the Z10 is much better than the dev alpha was, so the specs matter as well. But at a certain point things become "fast enough". The browswer is lightning fast, and the little gaming I have done is fine, but most importantly, the speed at which I get things done is incredible. I keep telling people how I feel like I am getting fewer messages since upgrading to the Z10, but the reality is I am just more effecient now.
