Canada off course should step up its efforts for fair competition. You are looking at blackberry fighting for survival against the dominate business from google and apple, and yet if some media continuely giving out negative comments, it will hurt the business and the chance of success. China give lots of subsidies to solar, the us rescue the banks.
Only the incompetent and welfare recipients need help from the government. Its already embarrassing enough that the minister had to say a few words to encourage the company to do well. This company can do much better imo.
It was revealed recently that, in the US, 22 of the 100 corporations with the highest paid CEOs, received US government financial bailouts after the US banks, investment houses/brokers and mortgage companies wrecked US financial stability in 2007/2008.
The Canadian government said that governments should not own stakes in private companies... that's what it said when it sold out of a portion of its GM stake a few days ago. That doesn't mean that the government can't help finance a bid that would help support local jobs.
