i dont think it affects the stock per se UNLESS you get the government mad-- and that seems to be the change here-- GFI just shut down a lot of things to get a handle on this and mgmt has taken a proactive role in the last year to be safety conscious. if you look at news releases for say, CN miners, they stress their safety first,
so short term losses dont have an effect but the companies reaction and gov'ts reaction means a lot over the long haul-- unless you have just one mine and it is shut down due to disaster OR a big mine etc.
that hurt GFI last year during the attempt to clean up their safety record.
agree HIV a bigger concern, but people gotta work! and there is not much in SA but mining and tourism- killed by the economy for sure.
