    • Divursfi, you deserve a lot of credit;
      this posting from Oct. 2003 hit the nail on the head;
      Still a mistery to me that it took a year for the market to recognize what was going on;

    • Di,

      I often wonder about a real estate bubble and what it will take to pop it, and I'm now wondering if KKD is a sort-of barometer for that pin prick.

      The puzzle relates to bankruptcy and foreclosure and mis-managed debt on one hand, while the other hand holds fisfuls of hype and promises.

      Not to be political, but look at what Pres Bush said in his Inaugural speech last weekend:

      We will widen the ownership of homes and businesses, retirement savings and health insurance preparing our people for the challenges of life in a free society.

      Hence, one wonders about the financial engineering associated with this type of top-down thinking, and thus what it may mean in terms of pumping the bubble to the point of a dotcom-type frenzy, where too many people are holding too much debt, not unlike too many people holding too much equity during the stock bubble.

      Still working out ideas on this, but KKD is an example of euphoria and leverage under the table, i.e., collusion of accountants, banks, SEC, and various forces that seek to take advantage of an agenda for growth.........what think? I feel better now........!

    • Thanks for the super report - as always , Krispy Kremes open to long lines of satisfied happy customers. Proving once again that Krispy Kreme is truly an American Icon and worthy of becomming the Stock Of the Decade on the NYSE.

    • The Beaverton store opened late last August. I drive by it on the way to work. It seems like business has slowed down-- some traffic, but no longer the incredible long lines. So I went for some donuts Sat. morning about 9am.

      I thought it would be dead. Instead, there was a long line at the drive through (over 20 cars-- the whole drive-thru was packed and overflowing on the main street). Inside, there was a line going through past the front door an onto the sidewalk. Obviously... still some interest. Not exactly a flash-in-the-pan.

      I went again Sunday morning at 7:30 am (that's early, unless you forgot to set your clock back 1 hr). I was again surprised how busy it was-- the line was again past the front door and starting on the sidewalk.

    • Four more stores opening this week. I like to read the press reports-- please post some if you find them:

    • Are you saying there have been press releases for every KKD opening prior to yesterday, and that is why the lack of press releases for yesterday's openings is indicative of the "media "world's" acknowledgement of "criticism of its willingess to cover KKD's self promotion?

      Are you a KKD short?

    • My searches haven't found any news about the other openings. Perhaps they didn't occur, perhaps the media world is taking to heart the recent spate of criticism of its willingness to cover KKD's self-promotion.

      I didn't find a KKD press release announcing the other three openings, but I didn't find a release on the Connecticut one either. So theory #2 is perhaps more likely.

      One more item on the Connecticut opening. I wouldn't recommend this one for investment advice, though:

    • Thanks much for the article link on the CT store-- any news about the other openings? It's not like KKD to be so quiet...?
