(Reuters) - Barnes & Noble Inc said on Wednesday it expects its Nook business to post an increased full-year loss in fiscal 2013, as the top U.S. bookstore chain struggles with slower sales of e-readers and e-books and rising costs.
I was in the store on Sunday. Both display booths had a nice display and literature, but no sales person on staff attending to either booth. I then went to the Information Booth centrally located in the store to inquire about the e-readers. I asked a few leading questions about the e-readers. Not once did the "Informed Clerk" ask if I wanted to buy one.
I get the feeling the store clerks think the e-readers will sell themselves...problem is, the e-readers are locked behind the display counters with no sales staff, so a pick up and purchase at the front is not available. Keeping these e-readers locked up and out of reach, with clerks seemingly not interested in "trying to sell them" will not help sales increase.
