    BN.com Dirt

I can't reveal the source of this dirt as it
would cost somebody their job. It offers a valuable
insight into the workings of an online
    bookstore:

    ---------------------
    Hey [Name Withheld],

    I wasn't sure if you
would be interested, but I thought I would at least
send you this story. A friend from college called me
the other day and told me that he got a job working
for Barnes & Noble.com. He has a background in web
design, and he thought I would be interested in the B&N
    operation.

Basically he told me that he works in a
department with 30 other people that he described as, "slave
labor". Essentially, B&N will not hire any of these
people on full time to avoid paying benefits, and that
all these 30 people do all day is scan book covers
and write text. He went on to tell me that B&N keeps
everything VERY close to their chest about what's going on
in other departments, but he would keep his eyes and
ears open for any juicy tid bits that he thought I
    would be interested in.

    He suspects that he
could work here as a temp for up to two years as this
is what they are telling the department of employees
is their current need for transcribes. Just passing
on the dirt. I will let you know if I find out
    anything else.
