In current New Yorker. Great contacts within article. No good diagnostic. Didn't this come up before? I forget what was said. 38,000 cases but author says it could be ten times that amount including unreported to docs.
the truth is that there are NO GOOD diagnostic tests for lyme. if there are no tests ie antibodies or blood chemicals that can be tested, then chembio can not create a POC to measure them. this is a basic science research problem that hasn't been solved and is not the kind of thing that chembio does.
If you have symptoms and go to an ER on LI they will draw blood and run a "tick panel" and have a result within an hour. Unfortunately I have experience in this, was bitten by a tick while on Eastern LI last summer. They did the test on my blood and confirmed I had babeseosis...worse than lyme. Google it, Animal Planet has a good two-minute video that summarizes one man's case. I spent five days in the hospital, not pleasant.
