LONDON (Dow Jones)--Several chief executives of U.S. and European oil companies are scheduled to attend Sunday's major gathering of energy producing and consuming nations in Saudi Arabia, according to event organizers. Among those slated to participate at the meeting are chief executives of Exxon Mobil Corp . (XOM) Rex Tillerson, Chevron Corp .'s (CVX) David O'Reilly, ConocoPhillips' (CO) Jim Mulva), Eni SpA 's (E) Paolo Scaroni and Total SA 's (TOT) Christophe de Margerie. Jose Sergio Gabrielli, head of Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR), or Petrobras, and Sri Mohd Hassan Marican of Malaysia's Petronas are also scheduled to attend the meeting, which will take place at the Red Sea coastal city of Jeddah. Over 30 chief executives of national and international oil companies around the world were invited to the Jeddah meeting along with energy and economy ministers from 26 countries, including China, India, and Mexico.
I'm surprised that there was a public announcement of the meeting given the security concerns for such a high profile assemblage. I have serious misgivings about the ability of the Saudis to prevent a determined terrorist attack in their country.
