Petrobras Rated JPMorgan `Top Pick' Oil Co

Petrobras Rated JPMorgan `Top Pick' Among Petroleum Companies

    By Paulo Winterstein

July 1 (Bloomberg) -- Petroleo Brasileiro SA, Brazil's state-controlled oil company, was rated as a ``top pick'' for global oil companies by JPMorgan Chase & Co. on the prospect that it will be one of the ``top beneficiaries'' of higher petroleum prices.

The Rio de Janeiro-based oil company is among JPMorgan's preferred stocks because, along with Stavanger, Norway-based StatoilHydro ASA, it has a large portion of its assets directed towards exploration and production, analyst Lilyanna Yang wrote in a note to clients. About 90 percent of earnings before interest and taxes comes from exploration and production, which should benefit Petrobras and Statoil as oil prices rise, the analyst wrote.

      Rating :

    • Great. But what happens when oil prices retreat? At some point it's inevitable that there will be a correction, possibly of sizable magnatude, and possibly only temporarily on the way to much higher prices over the very long term. I could easily make oil prices fall by just filling the tank in my house; guaranteed it will go down by at least 25% the following week. If I continue to hold out for a lower price it will certainly soar. The last time I bought oil was in mid-April, 2007, when I paid $2.49/gallon.

I could easily make the price of heating oil crash by just filling the tank in my house; guaranteed the price will fall by at least 25% the next week. As long as I continue to hold out for a lower price it will continue to soar.

    • Yeah! And JPM upgraded Lehman Brother's to a buy yesterday. What a bunch of shills these brokerage/investment houses are.
