    First Hostess, Now Wal Mart...

I like Costco. Maybe a lesson can be learned here. Looking at long charts of the 2 companies, WMT has outperformed long term, Costco has done slightly better on a 2 year comparison.

I'm just saying that Unions were initially set up to protect children from child labor abuse, excessive work hours under dangerous conditions etc. These were all legitimate reasons. I'm not saying it's all bad, I just think too many workers now are complaining about too many things. Wal Mart will hire employees that nobody else will hire. At least these people have a job. There is no easy solution. Never is an easy one it seems.

    • I trust that when American workers walk off the job, there is reason. Since we don´t work at Walmart, who are we to judge. As for unions, it is clear that they were central to the creation of an American middle.class in mining, manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, travel, and that they help protect workers´ rights in those and other industries.

Are all unions now part of the problem rather than the solution? I´m not so sure. I will go out on a limb and say that more companies have gone BK due to bad management, over-leverage and foreign competition than due to militant unions. I don´t have the data, just an opinion.
