> I was strictly in private industry away from auditing and there you very much DO need to know computers even better than accounting if you are to head a department.
Totally untrue. There were many heads of accounting departments in the 1980's that knew very little or nothing of computers. It is true that if you are the head of an accounting "department" in a cracker box, teeny tiny company, with only a couple of people working for you, then you do have to be more of a Jack of all Trades sort of fellow... just as the CEO of a teeny tiny company also is usually the head of PR and some other functions. But if you were qualified to be an accounting head, you could easily have been the head of the accounting department in a reasonable sized company without having any computer expertise.
