Romney names Rep. Paul Ryan to be his running mate
How utterly UNexciting to hear that this numbers-cruncher will be Romney's running mate. I thought it would either be a big swing-state Senator or someone like Condoleezza Rice to shore up the foreign policy side of things.
Instead, it's the head of the House Budget Committee. The last time that a mere Congressman (as opposed to a Senator or Governor) was a running mate, it was Geraldine Ferraro, chosen as a token woman candidate by on the 1988 Democratic ticket headed by Michael Dukakis that got trounced.
I can't imagine that all that many undecided voters will be swept off of their feet by this lackluster choice.
Congressman Gerald Ford was appointed VP to replace Agnew, and then went on to be president. I would suggest that Congressman Paul Ryan has better credentials than either Ford, or Biden, or even the Messiah.
Ford was one of the Deans of the House when he was picked. He wasn't a goofy-looking, 42-year-old kid.
It also should be mentioned that Ford isn't all that highly-rated as President and he was unable to garner a separate elected term dur in large part to his hideous gaffe in the debates about Poland not being under the thumb of the Soviet Union.
