Pfizer desperately needs this. I bought more PFE just now both in my retail and Roth accounts. I believe PFE is less than 3 months away from announcing a major licensing agreement with Celsion Corporation (NASDAQ: CLSN) for Thermodox for the treatment of liver cancers. While Thermodox is projected to be a billion dollar drug in itself just for liver cancers worldwide, it's not "a drug." The image-guided, lyso-thermo-sonal-sensitive liposomal drug delivery platform Celsion offers is a "pipeline within a product." It offers PFE not just an effective drug, but, I am confident, rights of first refusal (if Pfizer is smart) for the myriad of cancer AND non-cancer applications for this delivery model. Further, encapsulating a patent-expiring drug into these new generation low-temp-sensitive, millisecond-triggerable, targeted nanoparticles presents a new, patentable drug.
I believe the deal was basically done and set to be announced in 3Q09, with Wyeth, and has since gone into the board rooms of PFE and CLSN. CLSN Phase III data is due out within 40 trading days, and I expect the Pfizer license deal to follow in fairly short order based on the strength of the data.
Um, before anyone gets their underwear all bunched up: A) No, I am not a pumper, B) Yes, by all means I own long positions in PFE and CLSN, C) I am a nationally-awarded cancer patient advocate and cancer-fighting volunteer who follows cancer treatment developments intensely. I know what I am talking about, and I have no qualms whatsoever stating that this technology is arguably the most significant development in oncology in the last 18 to 26 years, and an historic medical development for non-invasive targeted treatments of many sorts.
So, naturally I would suggest people go long in CLSN very quickly, and in PFE as well, to take advantage of this short drawback. At the best, though, consider this post perhaps a tiny smidgeon of a reason to begin your own dd. A good site to start dd is celsion dot blogspot dot com
