Special Dividend? Anyone know if PFE is paying out before year end?
Been holding for about 5 years and have accumulated over 150 aditional shares with the dividends being re-invested...now i wonder if it would be wise to sell before the end of the year, considering the tax changes set to take effect in 13.... any good advice would be much appreciated.
Pfizer is working on a string of AT LEAST 31 consecutive years where the annual closing range as measured from the low close of the year to the high close of the year has been at least 23.7%. Daily prices only go back as far as 1982 and so the streak may be even longer than 31 consecutive years.
In 2012, the low close of the year was the $20.95 seen on Feb. 6. With that low, Pfizer needed to see at least $25.95 on a closing basis and indeed a $26.04 close was seen on Oct. 18 to keep the streak alive. 2012 in fact was only the third year of the 31 where the closing range has failed to be at least 25%.
Looking at the charts, there is very strong visible support in the $23 area. If that proves to be the low close in 2013, the odds are very very good that a closing high at least as high as $28.45 will be seen. I definitely would NOT be sellling at these prices.
If you have a nearby need for the money, now would be a good time to sell. If, however, you can wait, the stock has a good possibility of going up 3-5 dollars a share this year along with a nice dividend increase, which should more than offset any tax considerations.
Your response of the share price going up from three to five dollars is in line with my thinking, however, I doubt it will be attained this year. In my mind, the increase in the dividend tomorrow will possibly increase the stock price to 25.50$ if it's not already factored in its price.
