1 billion given to avian flu research

NOVARTIS = $220 + million. Partners with ALNY, who is doing research with avian flu. Anyone speculating that ALNY is going to get some of that?
Does anyone know if this info was release before market close. If so the person who just bought 200,000 shares today is going to have a good day tommorrow.

    • RNAi technology does not produce vaccine, but it can produce siRNA which destroys flu virus gene copies in our body cells when virus invades the cells. Vaccine is useful to individuals who can develop immune defense against the virus. Infants and elderly do not have strong immunity. So, RNAi based drugs can be useful to them.
The contract with the ARMY Research Lab involves Dengue fever.

    • Alright. What the hell is Novartis and ALNY teaming up to do with bird flu then? I thought it was to figure out a cure/vaccine/ something to get rid of it. Can someone explain to me, I obviously don't understand. These one and two sentence "no" " not vaccine" responses aren't helping me out.

From what I see: They are teaming up with Novartis----- check out the news from Feb 21st

"Multiple therapies are likely to be required both to prevent and to treat influenza," said Mark Fishman, M.D., President of the Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research. "An RNAi therapeutic could be an innovative modality, crippling the virus through incapacitating several genes.

Prevention = vaccine ----> (to me) I thought?

ALSO: I can't find the article, but didn't the DOD/army team up with ALNY about a month ago to do something with bird flu? I remember something being said, but I cant find it
