There is speculation that Chazen may become Chairman when Irani retires next year and that OXY wants to permanently separate the chairman and CEO roles. Chazen is also 66 and his backround is from wall street. I do not think he is an oil man and this position may have only been temporary on their way to splitting the job.
I hope they pick someone dynamic that will excite shareholders. How much can a CEO change with this line of business. It's not like the former Apple Exec Ron Johnson now the JCPenney CEO trying to make waves in the retail world.
