I have always thought the show was misplaced and complete overkill on one of the big 4. It's a documentary and as such should never have been forced to compete with 3-5 million dollar per episode dramas or 2 million dollar per episode "reality" (what a joke) TV shows. Don't get me wrong, the show is FABULOUS and they've done a great job with it, but it really would hit it's target audience and at a much lower cost by utilizing DISCOVERY networks and most likely one of the HISTORY channel outlets. I think NBC knows this. Remember they ARE Comcast and own dozens of cable channels. Not sure which one would make the best fit within their stable, but Im sure there is one. Hallmark and Lifetime come to mind.
A month from now you folks will be coming back for a good laugh at yourselves for having been so gullible.
The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. But it would be on A&E Network's "The BiographyChannel". They already do biographies of famous people. Going the distance and actually digging into their genealogical past is a perfect fit.
Now THAT is funny. But truthfully, it would be interesting to 'unleash' the new DNA module on them and see just who and where they actually do come from. Most of us are genealogically so mixed up it's ridiculous. The funny thing would be the humor in disabusing people who think they come from a pure lineage. I agree with most of the comments here that this is actually going to look great come earnings looking out a quarter or two. A very expensive advertising campaign has come to an end.
