"Further down the line" translates as "after we make a huge profit from our gun investments"
Look at this hypocrisy:
Jan 15 (Reuters) - New York state's $150 billion public pension fund will stop buying shares of publicly-traded firearms manufacturers, including Sturm Ruger & Company Inc, New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli said on Tuesday.
The state pension fund holds 45,325 shares of Sturm Ruger valued at about $2.2 million in an index fund, he said in a statement.
Asked whether the fund would sell its Sturm Ruger holdings, a DiNapoli spokesman said that decision was "further down the line."
New York's public pension "will not buy stock in companies whose primary business is manufacturing firearms for commercial sale," DiNapoli said.
SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT?? OUT OF MORAL OBLIGATION THEY WON'T BUY ANY MORE GUN STOCK SHARES, BUT THEY HAVE NO PROBLEMS OF CONSCIENCE PROFITING FROM THEIR CURRENT SHARES WHEN THEY REACH A HIGHER PRICE??? HYPOCRITES. THEY SHOULD BE WILLING TO SELL THE STOCK BACK AT THE LOWER PRICE THEY PAID FOR IT IF THEIR INTENTIONS WERE GENUINE.
Yeah, but I think their big problem is the fact that it is within an index fund. No way to sell just the RGR, without selling the whole fund. They're just blowing smoke. It is total hypocrisy though, for the reason you mentioned and because it ignores the good that firearms do in providing police with the weapons they need to help them to keep the peace, to the extent that they can when they will almost always arrive after the fact. It ignores the notion that our military serves a useful purpose in protecting our nation from its enemies, at least when properly managed, which Ron Paul and others would say it has been anything but lately. It ignores all the times which cannot and will not be reported by mainstream media, where a firearm in the hands of a law abiding civilian has prevented a crime from occurring or limited its scope.
Never in my life have I seen the media in our country turn from faithful watchdogs into a bunch of lapdogs for a President and the left as I have in the last four years. I, too, am disgusted by the lack of coverage of lives being saved because of a good guy with a gun. The stupidity of half our nation that will believe just about anything that is put in front of them is mind boggling and saddens me greatly. If RGR drops more today I will buy more judiciously.
