    • I know what you mean. You could try a binary search method:

Post the first half. If it doesn't work, post the first quarter. If it does work, post the second half, and if that doesn't work, post the third quarter. And so on, until you narrow down where the problem is.

Title each post with "TEST" of course :-)

    • Thanks for the idea. I just tried it but still no luck. It has now become a challenge... It's crazy that I can still post messages but this one won't go through... I even re-typed the whole thing and I'm not using any unusual characters that I haven't always used. The next attempt will probably be from another computer or with a different browser.

    • If you're having problems posting maybe it's due to some non-ASCII characters in your post. If it doesn't look like you have any of those, maybe cut and pasting into something like notepad first (with word wrap on) will get rid of them.

    • Another try. Will it work???... Trying in multiple parts for this last attempt. Part 1:

We've all had some good points here and obviously everyone will be "partially" right/wrong.

    • Unbelievable, it made it... LOL. So I just can't post the other comment for some reason... I tried to cut/paste here and it still won't go through. Very strange indeed...

Now I'm going to try in three parts.

    • TEST-- If this goes through at least I know it wasn't a problem with the post I was trying to reply to. I can post to other boards (just not GMS's)... Some will be happy about that & others may not be as happy but regardless it's annoying. This is the message that I've been getting when trying to reply to this message:

<<<<Sorry, Unable to process request at this time -- error 999.

I wonder if this post will make it. It won't solve the problem but will make the issue more interesting...

    • yes Bioshock is a good example, transformers was another game that got more sells than what was thought would happen, skate was a sleeper hit also. The Wii looks like the area where the next big hit comes from IMO.

    • I agree with you... a good example this year of a game with no esposure before launch that turned into one of the best games of the year was BIOSHOCK... and the NPD data backs up how successful it was so there is really no need for other to debate it.

BioShock sold identical to Mass Effect from Microsoft and both were in the top 15 in 2007 even though they launched in the later quarter of the year.

    • Btw, there's no used market for digital distribution which makes it doubly attractive for publishers.

And it makes it doubly ugly for consumers which will blunt the uptake of this by the consumer. Economics work both ways. If a deal is sweet for publishers but sucks for consumers that consumers will turn to privacy or leave the sector, look at the music industry for a hint of what will be instore if the publishers screw the consumers.

I do believe earnings will grow, but I also believe the multiple will come down due to slowing growth and increased competition

What do you think has been going on since Jan?

Apparently I'm alone in thinking that a currently unknown title will outsell maybe 15M units or more of Smash Bros + Mario Kart + GTA this time next year.

So you want one game to outsell three? Maybe there will be 4 or 5 or 6 games that combined outsell those three. Look at Wii fit coming out. It isn't even a VG but will post great sells. who saw Wii let alone Wii fit doing that this time last year.

You say growth is slowing based on games. I will repeat growth is based on consoles not games. the consoles have not even reached mass market prices yet. As long as the consoles are still selling and growing and the Wii is flying off the shelves the growth is not done. The games are meaningless as long as they are good. It use to be a million seller was a hit now it's more like 5-9 million is a hit that's growth. you also dismiss the influence that gamer sites and mags have on making a game a hit. If a game gets a 9.0 or 10.0 from the gamers it will be a hit even if we have never heard of it.

also you fail to take in account the internal growth of GME. Gme is not selling a Gears of War 2 off the same base of stores as it did Halo 3. It is expanding, opening stores across the world, expanding its online site, buying competition out. So you have internal growth, console growth, and sales growth. Against all three areas of growth you say that game title release will trump all of them. you are missing the forest for the trees it would appear.
