Irony is that GME falling benefits shareholders

You are assuming the long-term investor will stay with a stock no matter what happens to the price. This may be true for the buy-and-hold individual whom does not have the portfolio management skills to know better.

However, most stocks are held in institutional holdings meaning the portfolio manager knows better than blindly staying with a company after performing so badly. After a reevaluation of the company (after more than a 10% drop from entry) there is a good bet the manager would cut his losses and reposition in a healthier company.
