    Sales Numbers

The numbers are pretty incredible when you realize we are not even a week into the holiday shopping season.

Xbox: “More Black Friday data is coming in for the USA market. According to Microsoft, the X360 sold 960,000 units during Black Friday week (likely November 20-26), with 800,000 of those systems selling during Black Friday itself (November 25). The company also sold 750,000 Kinects (standalone and bundled) during Black Friday week. This was the best week in the history of Xbox and X360 for Microsoft.”

Wii: “US retailers sold 500,000 Wiis on Black Friday itself. In 2010, Nintendo sold 600,000 Wiis from November 21-27, in seven days as opposed to one.”

PS3: No sales numbers released, however PS3 sales up 3% year over year to date.

Software: “Year on year software totals are up for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and are down for the Wii. The PlayStation 3 is up 1.54 million (33%), the Wii is down 1.55 million (-28%) and the Xbox 360 is up 1.90 million (35%).” These numbers are for the week ending November 19 and do not take into account Black Friday week. Software sales will be bolstered by strong hardware sales, and the Wii should improve with the new release of Zelda. Source vgchartz.com

There is an unprecedented amount of strong AAA video game releases in this current quarter. This will create a glut of used games. The conference call said the average power up member (14.5 million members) shops GME every 21 days. These members usually buy used. You will see these members trading in there first must have game to get the next. Also, GME has changed their price tag on used games. The new price tag has the used game price ($54.99) and power pro price ($49.99) which shows an even bigger discount over the used game price and new game price ($59.99). This initiative should increase the power pro membership (which costs $14.99) and awareness.
