Long Term Serious Question Related to Xbox 720/ps4
if a shift comes to all digital media/content... used games business would be obsolete and disc content would be phased out... what would happen to GME and similar stores? Also best buy/walmart and other stores that sell console games...
Not sure what is going to happen in the next generation but people have talked about all digital content.-
i read an article some where, it said walmart sold most of the TVs, bluray players, and game consoles in US. I said walk-mark and amazon. not amazon.
Sony and MS don't need gamestop to sell their console. if gamestop don't want to carry console, that's fine with them. people will find a way to buy them. walmart and amazon are 100X times bigger them gamestop. walmart and amazon offer giftcards when you buy a console from them alot of time. -
Gamestop sells DLC for the PSN as well. You act as if only Amazon sells to the PSN.
Sorry but Microsoft and Sony would be screwed without Gamestop.
Gamestop's best selling product in their top 5 list at number 3 is call of duty elit le in their PS3 section.
Amazon cannot fill any void that you think they can when by the time the systems release, Amazon will be collecting sales tax. -
Bulk of Kid Icarus Dlc being sold at Gamestop as well.

40% ofMass effect 3 DlC went to Gamestop not Amazon.
I've not seen a single source other than yourself claiming Amazon sold more Consoles than Gamestop. -
games are not going all digital completely any time soon...but they may require an online account activation....which could effectively block used games.

do you think sony/microsoft ultimately care about the industry as a retail form and would hesitate from going all digital? Serious question fellas.

Sounds like you are a little late to the discussion. If you have time to skim through this message board for the last few years, you will see that is the "eternal" question. If discs and used go away, then GME goes with it IMO. WMT, TGT, AMZN, are department stores and sell plenty of other things so will be ok.

I love it how Amzn longs claim Amazon is immune to a total wipe out of their new/used and trade-in software games section because they sell other stuff.
Not hardly. Amazon would incur massive costs to their inventory to divest all that and deal with a huge loss of 3rd party support from all kinds of retailers that pay Amzn money to sell games.
All while Amazon has to deal with collecting sales taxes by then and they have a paultry profit margin.
Multiple Quarters in the red.
