The market was looking for any reason to sell off this stock. Gme has been one of the best performers all year. The pull back was too much. Comp store sales always used to kill them and they were up 20.5%. Yoy for the q and they guide up for 4th q and the year.
The only thing the shorts cared about was the -.01 guidance vs consensus. Well look at their history they always guide very conservative this was GME's 6th straight quarter beat. If you listen to the cc even the analyst from ubs, second to last question, questions the conservative guidance.
The points that ppl missed are that PS 4 is already up 80% compared to PS 3 for all of 2006. Xbone is 15 % higher for all of 2005. They will be getting more allocations of these units look for them during black friday or week after.
$500 m stock repurchase will create a nice floor they bought $95 m at $51.37. The Spring mobile aquisition is huge combined with Simply Mac they are at around 175 mobile stores. They didn't even start a mobile initiative untill 2 years ago. We test the highs again in the next few weeks.
I went back and looked at the company's financial performance through the last console cycle. interestingly, margins compressed to almost the same level then through the console launches of 05 and 06 only to rebound nicely in the following years. also same store sales hit their peak growth rate 1-2 years after the console launches as software/accessories/used business follows consoles. During that time the company's multiple expanded dramatically (averaging 15x EV/EBITDA through 06 and 07 and peaking at 20x, according to Bloomberg) versus on 5.5x today. So the stock has historically re-priced a lot higher as its growth rate has accelerated following console launches. Hopefully, PE guys see this trend, too (and with a clean balance sheet to lever no less)!
Couldn't agree more. Saw the bounce today. This thing goes to 65 before they report holiday sales numbers in January. Sony has already said that there will be plenty of ps4s for the holiday. Gamestop is selling 50% of those. Spring Mobile is a HUGE deal. I can easily see any underperforming Gamestop store being converted into a mobile cell phone Apple dealer.
Shrinking the shares expanding into hard mobile assets imho this company is headed into a pe buyout around 80 a share.
