And that's from carefully analyzing managements
report released today. And that 29% figure or roughly
five percent drop from the 34% share, is based on
their figures of 100 million in sales decline, due more
in part to their cost restructuring, eliminateing
old inventory, and all this other stuff, related to
the Y2K that as you know, is one time charges. That a
lot of will be recouped a lot faster than they are
projecting, I think???
And if you observe what's
happening to Gibson, that's inevitable, and regardless of
whether American ever acquires them or not, with the
demographics of their manufacturing and distribution units in
Kentucky and Tennessee, and Gibson's major markets in the
Southeast, AM is more apt to pick up that marketshare than
Hallmark, who are located in Kansas.....Cost of shipping
alone will dictate that.....
internal identityn now that the easy money is gone, I
agree, needs to be addressed, and I've already stated
how they can do that. Now whether they do it or not,
remains to be seen....;-)

take up for her! Why you just mad because your
sweetie the Cowboy , Frankie Baby, couldn't cut the
mustard, like I said, in the beginning, and that poor
hallowed ship of Gibson Greetings, is sinking like a rock!
Sure says something about your qualifications to
analyize ANYTHING! Just trying to tell all of ya the
truth! If ya'll had a listened to me, I wouldn't be
sitting here telling 'I TOLD YA SO'....;-)
don't both you neandrathals go crawl back in that cave
and lick your wounded egos...and learn to act like a
damn lady's supposed to act! And give that Gloria

The lady was making some good points. Before

is obviously in an arena beyond your ability to
mentally grasp. However, that is no reason to be a jerk.

premature equality ideas in that gray matter that resides

trying to be nicey nice! Darn.....
P.S. if you
can see as clearly as you say you can, why can't you
make a decision to purchase some of American Greetings
stock, rather that sit around and idly post day after
day??? You sure seem confused to me??? I'm not, but I'm

place.....Come to think of it, twas my ex-wife that talked me
into buying Gibg stock??? I should have invested in

I question a company
not willing to share this basic info...makes me
wonder whether there's something to hide...after all,
automaker share is readily published, as it is with so many
other products, but not cards--wonder why???. Card
share calculation is simple, just wonder what it
P.S. You really have been hittin' the moonshine too
hard---havin' trouble adding 1+1 are we??? By the way, I can
see very clearly from your web site why you don't get
any calls back from the card companies!
and in what we are talking about in this
industry, with all the variables, you have to consider, I
question it's accuracy...
However, have at it,
you'll believe what you wanna believe anyway? That's the
And so far, as you see, nobody's
willing to discuss any kind of data like this....like I
say, it's proprietary....and even Nielsen charges big
bucks, for something like this...I find you quite
That's what companies like Market Facts do for a
living. Kind of like the Nielsen TV panel, where they can
have people keep track of programs they watch-----in
this case, cards they buy---which manufacturer, etc.,
etc., etc. I used to work for a consumer packaged goods
company, and this info, in conjunction with Nielsen scan
data did the trick nicely. This is a trivial task from
But let me repeat myself,
does anyone have insight to AM's share? It's out
there, whether or not anyone wants to discuss it! It
makes a difference to me in whether I'd want to invest.
From my perspective, with 191 consecutive
quarters of dividends paid out, says a lot about the track
record of the current AM management.
their stock was selling at 56 bucks a share. Then it
dropped because they knew, 1. The market was dwindling
somewhat because of the online free egreetings, 2. the
cheaper cards, 3. old inventory, that they had to dispose
of, of which they instituted an restructuring plan,
to reduce costs and streamline and manufacture with
newer technology, and they've had a diversified
marketing program going on for years, going into software
and other areas....I see that with what they intend
to do by closeing down the canadian operations that
are old, and need to be updated.
You can bet,
they are crunching the numbers on cost saveing on the
extreme conservative side of things....because a
restructureing like this, there's just too many varibles to
control and consider....but if I was in their shoes, I'd
damn sure want to make sure, I could continue paying
dividends, till the market shakes out!
why I believe that if everything goes halfway
smoothly, in this restructuring, and they meet their
targets, in the next three quarters, and dividends are
paid out consistently, that stock price will hit 60
bucks a share by next March easy...
I don't know
what your stock position is, but I do believe you are
worrying excessively about what the TRUE Market share of
American Greetings is, because building markets, is an
ongoing thing, and since they have a track record of
competent management, I'm inclined to say, TRUST THEM,
because there's plenty of time, to gauge this thing on a
long term basis, and decide whether to pull your money
out or not.....;-)
What I'd watch, is news
forcasts on that canadian restructuring, of where more
than likely, they will continue to update their
conservative numbers, you know, cause the idea is to raise the
stock price also....and please all the
And then on the flip side of the coin, screen
printing alternatives, will address the low priced
initiatives, by changing away from hard cards, which only
means New More Profitable Markets! I'm not aware of
what American is doing in that area, but I do know
they used to do it...back in the seventies...and just
figureing 1% of a one trillion dollar a year market with
American's resources...That's a billion bucks! And that's
doable, without too much effort....;-)
Question: How can American Greetings know what
their true market share is, when there's no way to
ascertain for instance, what Hallmark's or Gibson's
especially, or the other 1797 private players, when those
private players have totally different
Hallmark is Private, And they ain't kissing and telling!

I don't care how big the market is.---well, I
care, but I already know it is flat at best(one worry I
know the answer to).
What I'm in the dark on is
MARKET SHARE. THIS is what I am concerned about. And,
I'd like to know what today's share is for AM. 34%
feels real high to me, with all the low-priced
initiatives out there gobbling up sales. That's what I'd like
informed insight on. Can anyone help?
