Solar Energy Still Unsettled in California
During the California Legislature's holiday break, Governor Schwarzenegger and members of the Senate and Assembly were encouraged to pass legislation that would create the next California Solar Program through 2017. Instead, Governor Schwarzenegger concluded it would be best to implement the California Solar Initiative (CSI) through the California Public Utilities Commission, (CPUC). Besides the additional legislation needed to make up for all of the shortfalls within the CSI, Governor Schwarzenegger has put this important and well funded program in the hands of CPUC staff who are either "new to the show" or do not have the experience or technical data needed. Additionally, within the industry, there is no unity or one group stepping up in a leadership role stating, "This is what we need, why we need it; and how we implement it within the timeframe required." ...continue

Lyndhurst, New Jersey [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] In yet another sign of New Jersey's strong tilt toward the use and promotion of renewable energy, a prominent state agency intends to reveal plans next week for what could become the largest solar photovoltaic (PV) project on the Eastern seaboard and possibly the entire U.S.
"When people think about New Jersey, especially this area, they think of landfills and stadiums, so this may come off as a little unexpected for a state agency to come out with a plan like this. But this is part of New Jersey turning itself around and making itself a major player in the environmental and renewable energy field."

      • If SATC supplies the majority of power to New Jersey, and California as well as powering the military's equipment there is tremendous potential for this stock to go over $100, this could be the next Qualcomm.
SatCon Technology Corporation(R) (SATC, Trade), a developer and manufacturer of power electronics for various markets, today announced that its SatCon Applied Technology division has been awarded a contract with General Atomics (GA) to join the GA team that will develop a new modular 40 megawatt power converter that will power and control a full-scale superconducting DC Homopolar Motor (HPM). The Homopolar Motor program is being developed under the Office of Naval Research (ONR). The Homopolar Motor propulsion system will provide benefits of higher efficiencies, smaller size, and weight savings for a broad range of military and commercial vessels.

SatCon's President and Chief Operating Officer, Millard Firebaugh, stated, "SatCon is pleased to be participating in the Navy's advanced propulsion and power distribution programs. This contract supports one of our stated strategic initiatives to grow our Navy business area. The HPM program enables SatCon to develop propulsion power technology for the military that we believe could represent the future of propulsion and power distribution technology for ships and other commercial platforms."

The award expands on SatCon's portfolio of power electronics applications with the development of an integrated modular converter design. This technology has direct applicability to both military and civilian propulsion systems and represents a major step forward in technology for "all electric" ship applications.

    • While still an SBIR, this IMP project could pan out to be huge. This isn't a small sub-assebly, this is the whole propulsor enchilada. Has potential for an advanced propulsion system for commercial and military ships, submarines, UUVs, Autonomous Undesea Vehicles (AUVs), and Advanced Seal Delivery System (ASDS). And it is a cost-plus contract....way better for SATC than fixed price.

      • Seems like theres a lot of people that sold hoping to buy back cheaper, thats a shame they are going to be very disapointed they didn't hold when this is a $10 stock later this year. Big boys are accumulating, it takes them a few days to buy up shares, don't let them have them so cheap.
People are finding out what a steal this gem is. Better get more, once the crowd finds out this company has a cure for the worlds energy needs this stock will fly over $10 quickly.

Hold On To Stocks If They Get Quick 20% Gain

        Paul Whitfield

When a stock breaks out and races to a 20% gain, an investor faces a choice.
Do you sell for a quick gain or sit tight for bigger gains?

IBD studies suggest that such fast movers should be held. A stock that surges 20% out of the gate is showing tremendous strength.

      • End of day rally coming soon, better get in fast if you believe alternative energy is better than relying on arabs for oil. You can make a lot of money with this stock, window dressing buying is coming soon.

    • We should easily go above $3 today, next week more good news is coming judging from the positive momentum. Looking for $20 long term.
      Looking very good.
SatCon recently announced a series of development contracts supporting its hybrid electric vehicle and auxiliary power initiatives, including a NASA contract for a superconducting dc homopolar motor, Army hybrid electric vehicle integrated starter generator contract, and Army tactical vehicle auxiliary power unit.

SatCon Technology Corporation (Nasdaq NM:SATC), a leader in power and energy management products, today announced that its MagMotor Division delivered an initial shipment of high efficiency motors and controllers for use in a recently introduced fuel cell powered automobile manufactured by a major domestic automotive manufacturer. The motors are part of SatCon's increasing line of fuel cell related products that include power converters for changing DC power to AC Power and its new MicroGridTM line of fuel cell controllers and software.

BOSTON, Sep 06, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- SatCon Technology Corporation(R) (SATC, Trade), a developer and manufacturer of power electronics and motors for the alternative energy markets, today announced that it has successfully listed five additional PowerGate(TM) AE-PV Series utility-grade photovoltaic inverter designs on the California Energy Commission's (CEC) list of eligible inverters. With the approval of these models by the CEC, SatCon now has the widest range of products available and the most efficient inverters for commercial-scale photovoltaic projects in North America.
The CEC closely tests and monitors all inverter products in an effort to ensure the integrity of the State's incentive programs. The efficiency rating of the PowerGate(TM) AE-PV 75kW and 135kW models tested and accepted was 95.5%, with peak efficiencies in excess of 96%. These are the highest efficiency ratings that have been given to any of the 80+ photovoltaic inverters listed by the Commission - httpwwwconsumerenergycenterorg/cgi-bin/eligible_inverters.cgi. The efficiency values are important to purchasers of solar PV systems as they are used to determine the amount of rebate incentive available to the purchaser, and enable the owner/operator to accurately calculate the payback of the total photovoltaic system.
"We are pleased with the performance of our PowerGate(TM) products," stated Millard Firebaugh, SatCon's President and Chief Operating Officer. "The tremendous efficiencies of this product combined with its overall reliable performance have enabled us to ship over 6 megawatts of commercial PV inverters so far this year, with another 4 megawatts in the backlog. In addition, we have some other exciting products in the R&D pipeline that will firmly establish SatCon as the industry leader in the commercial PV inverter market."
The PowerGate(TM) Series inverters offer very sophisticated software driven controls that allow the unit to maximize the kWh exported. This software, coupled with a proprietary design, enables the inverters to supply more power to the electrical grid, shortening the payback cycle for the entire photovoltaic power system.

      • SATC is just getting started, there is an incredible amount of value here, they have some great investments that should pay off very nicely soon, lots of good pattents and products.
Premiums on HEV's are increasing because of the demand, and they are estimating a huge increase in orders in the next 5 years. Even though HEV's do not provide much of a solution now, purchasing them will in turn increase R&D by companies, making them more efficient than they are today. In the long run, they will be the solution, as opposed to today (even though people still think it matters now).

Now, SATC getting business from this huge boom in the next 5 years is very likely due to the technology they have already, and what they are capable of doing. This will then help SATC move away from government contracts which will also improve the bottom line.
What do i think will happen? I think this huge increase in demand will start showing up on their Financials, but not for another year or so. This is going to be a huge industry, and it will only get bigger as gas prices increase, in the long run gas prices can only go up more as limited supply. But now, i believe they will start getting enormous amounts of business, and Potentially, their market cap should increase to a steady 500MM.
